Bridgestone has presented the new tyres that never descend
At the Paris auto show, Bridgestone unveiled a prototype of the second generation of its Air Free tire, which replaces the traditional aerial camera with a set of shock-absorbing bands that resemble thick curved spokes. The outer side of these airless tires is covered by a removable protectors moulded rubber.
But why give up proven traditional aircraft design? First, of course, to solve the problem of run-flat wheels, and secondly- to improve the possibilities for recycling waste tires, says the head of the technical Department Bridgestone in France, Olivier Monbe.
"Every part of this new tire can be recycled," says Mona. When the outer tread of the tire wears out, it can be removed and in its place to put on a new one, just heating it and pulling on top of tire.
Bridgestone is a global player in the industry of tires, the company has eight major kinoproizvoditeley plants around the globe. However, this is not the only company that is trying to develop an airless tire technology.
Britek Tire produces wheels "Energy Return Wheel for bicycles and military equipment. Michelin releases the wheel "Tweel" for construction trucks. And the tires "i-Flex" from Hankook are suitable for passenger cars.
Bridgestone debuted the airless tire sector in 2011, but since then greatly improved my first prototype. Now he's a much better absorbs shock, improved heat sink and heat distribution.
The next step will be the development work on the transverse rigidity is now it is too high, and it badly affects the ability of the machine to turn. Bridgestone engineers plan to solve this problem in the next two to four years. Meanwhile, in the course of the year in Tokyo will begin testing the new prototype, which will involve small electric vehicles for one passenger from the Toyota.
It is still early to talk about the price of new tyres. "The price will drop over time as we ramp up production," says Mona.
