As food waste was outlawed in France?

An unprecedented move, French lawmakers will make all the major supermarkets of the Fifth Republic to donate unsold food to charities or farmers.

Officials from France decided to seriously tackle the problem of food waste. They are prepared to adopt a new law prohibiting grocery stores throw away unsold items: if they are still safe to eat, these products should be donated to charity, if not they should be passed on to farmers for use as animal feed or compost.

Supermarkets will not be allowed to destroy unsold food intentionally in order to prevent low-income people to scour the dumpsters behind the shops in search of edible food (Yes, such a phenomenon also occurs in seemingly safe in France).

The draft law suggests that any reasonably large store (more than 400 square metres) have until July 2016 to conclude agreements on cooperation in the transfer of unsold food with charities or farms. Otherwise, the owners of the outlets face fines of up to € 75 000.published
