As healthy food can affect our genes

Very often, people like to talk about genetic predisposition: "my grandfather had diabetes, so I have a chance". But studies show that it is not so and in many ways we can change our genes.

It turns out that our food can affect genes that change our weight, blood pressure, level of cholesterol in the blood, slow the growth of cancer, and even slow down aging. Just 10 years ago, scientists were able to uncover the human genome and each new research is now finding links between our genetic profile and our health. Recent studies confirm that one of the ways by which we can influence the genes is in the foods we eat. In one study, people who ate more raw fruits and vegetables was recorded reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, even if they have attended a gene that increases the risk of these diseases.

The researchers divided the participants depending on the type of diet into 3 groups:

1. "Western" diet, and this includes salty and fried foods, meat, eggs, and sugar;

2. "Eastern" diet included more soy, pickled foods, eggs and greens;

3. The "prudent" diet, containing more raw fruits, vegetables, greens, nuts and dairy products.

People who were genetically very high risk of heart attack, with a reasonable diet at the gene level to reduce this predisposition conversely, the Western diet has led to increased this risk by 2 times.

1. The right diet can turn off the genes responsible for prostate cancer. The group of 31 men suffering from prostate cancer, was appointed a Sensible diet, walking and meditation. 3 months later the genes responsible for tumor growth, significantly decreased its activity, and the tumor decreased.

2. Healthy food slow down aging. In this group, the researchers measured the activity of the enzyme produced by the telomerase genes, which are thought to be involved in slowing the aging process. And studies have shown that the aging process really slowed down.

3. This diet improves blood circulation and normalizes weight. Also been studied 63 people with heart disease who adhered to a plant-based diet and compared them with the same group of people who do not adhere to any diet. The second group was not observed changes in health, and those who followed the diet, blood pressure fell by about 10% and it was noticed the weight loss. It's amazing how healthy food affects human genes.

But to stay healthy and fight diseases is not enough just to eat healthy. As the study argues, it is very important to do physical activity, especially outdoors.

"A daily walk in the fresh air surrounded by nature, along with active loads can determine the direction of our cells and sometimes this is comparable to pharmaceutical intervention," says study author Gianni Parise.

"We always depend on our genes. In many respects, they are at the mercy of our health and lifestyle decisions and habits," the study says.published
