Dustin Hoffman: Men's brainwashed
A short video is an excerpt from an interview with the actor, in which he talks about the idea of the film “Tootsy” (an unemployed actor, desperately, takes on the role of a woman – both in movies and in life). At the same time, Hoffman tells how, having stood in the place of the fair sex, he realized the unrealistically overstated requirements that men make for a woman’s appearance.
“What would change about you if you were born a woman?” an old friend asked me. I thought about it, and then I went to the film studio and asked to make up and do some tests. I wanted to know if it was possible to achieve the most believable transformation with the help of makeup – so that walking through the streets of New York I would look like a normal woman, and not catch the surprised glances of passers-by: “Man, why did you put on a woman’s dress and wig?”
I made such makeup, but when I saw myself on the screen, I was shocked – outwardly my character looked quite unattractive. I said, "Thank you guys, you made me look like a woman, and now please make me a beautiful woman." And they said, "I'm sorry, but that's the most attractive thing we've been able to do based on your external data."
That moment was a revelation to me. I went home and, crying, promised my wife that I would definitely make this film. She said, "Why?" And I said, 'Because I think my character is an interesting woman, but I know if I met her at a party somewhere, I would never even talk to her, let alone ask her out. Just because her appearance doesn't meet the demands that we men are used to putting on women. "What are you saying?" the wife asked. I said, "I've missed too many interesting women in my life, passed by without even trying to recognize them because I've been brainwashed." published
P.S. And remember, just changing our consumption – together we change the world!
