In New York, will be a virtual solar power plant

US energy companies New York Con Ed, SunPower and Sunverge officially announced the pilot project cost $ 15 million - the creation of a virtual solar power

. This project will be implemented in New York, presumably this summer. The project on the roofs of 300 private houses in urban areas of New York solar cells and lithium-ion energy storage system will be located in Brooklyn and Queens. Electric power of solar panels in the data sets will be from 7 to 9 kW, and the capacity of storage systems - 9, 4 * kilowatt hours
.

The owners of the houses will be for the provision of space on the roofs of their houses for free to receive a certain amount of electricity generated by a set of solar panels, and give the excess to the city electrical network or to buy at a special price.
All 300 sets of generating electricity from solar energy will be controlled by special software and integrated into a single network - a virtual power plant. It is expected that the peak power of the virtual power plant will reach 1, 8 MW, and will be involved in the regulation of frequency in the power grid.

Currently, the organizers of the project agree on security measures with the fire department of New York to deploy lithium-ion electric storage systems on the roofs of houses. It is assumed their placement in special sealed metal containers.
Sarah Singleton, senior vice president of marketing Sunverge, said: "All sets will be combined into a single network with a single control center from which the clock will be managed, including the value of the power returns to the national grid."
