Osmo: children's project for the iPad with Leap Motion Bashny.Net

Habré not often publishes news and articles about projects related to children. In general, it is true, because the Habr - clearly not a portal for parents :) However, sometimes there are children's development of the sphere, which should write here.

This is a project Osmo, developed by startup Tangible Play, and represent a gaming platform sovmeshayuschuyu virtual reality and the reality of the ordinary. The project uses Leap Motion , whereby its possibilities are very broad.



Comes with a small Osmo mirror which is attached to the plate, and three toys: «Tangram», «Words», and «Newton». The mirror is mounted on the camera plate, thus the tablet gets vozmozhnot "see" everything that happens on the table in front of the camera.



As for games, the first of them, Tangram, is a version of the relevant ancient Chinese game. Tablet shows image - for example, figure cats consisting of individual elements. The child on the table has all these elements, and he needs to put them in a way to make up the said figure. The tablet following the process, and if the figure is assembled correctly, you can proceed to the next level. Very exciting, consent (for the child, of course).



The second game, «Words» - for children who already know how to read and write. Players show different things, fruits, vegetables, household items and so on, and the children must put the word for the object of the cards with the letters. It is already possible to play and adults who are learning a foreign language :)

Newton - the third game, which is a sort of «Cut the Rope», where mixed virtual and real world. We need to throw the ball straight into the goal, which is shown on the display tablet.

The developers say that the games are designed for the age group of 6-12 years, but, I think, and younger children will be very happy to play in Osmo.



Over time, developers will add new games to Osmo, moreover, planned to attract and third-party developers to extend the capabilities of the project.



Now (until June 22), you can pre-order to Osmo, for $ 49 the manufacturer or at Medgadgets for 3990 rubles. After June 22, the price will increase to $ 100 (USD price remains the same), but to a basic set of three games will be added, and other games and applications. The kit will be available in the autumn.
