Wadi al-Salam means "Valley of Peace" is an Islamic cemetery, located in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq.
The cemetery covers an area of 1485 hectares and has 5 more than 5 million graves.
Wadi al-Salam is also the only cemetery in the world, where the burial process continued for more than 1,400 years.

During the 2003 war the armed forces of Iraq have used the cemetery as a refuge and a place for an ambush.
The US military did not know then about the underground galleries and secret shelters in the cemetery.
