In Greece, this cake is baked in memory of St. Fanurius, but I can cook it every day.

Greek cake with dried fruit of phanuropita is made to cook on August 27, the day of memory of St. Fanuriy. The delicacy is carried for consecration to the church, and then distributed piece by piece to everyone. However, the Greeks themselves and other lovers of delicious pastries often bake fanuropite without reason.

The cake is lean, so it will work if you do not eat animal products. Although there are no eggs, no milk, no butter, it turns out to be very tasty and aromatic. I highly recommend preparing this treat. Share the classic recipe further in the article!

Cooking a cake with dried fruits is very simple. Basically, you just need to mix all the dry and liquid ingredients, add dried fruits and nuts to them, and then bake the dough in a rectangular or square form. Even the most inexperienced hostess can do it!

The ingredients
  • 250 ml of water or orange juice
  • 90 ml of vegetable oil
  • 120-150 g of sugar
  • 10g vanilla sugar
  • 250g wheat flour
  • 15g baking powder
  • 1 orange
  • 50g nuts
  • 100 dried fruits
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 chips of turmeric
  • 1 chip salt

Preparation
  1. First of all, soak the dried fruit in warm water. It can be dried apricots, cranes and raisins. After 15 minutes, throw them on the coop and dry them with paper towels to take away excess moisture. Then grind them.

  2. In a deep bowl sift flour and baking powder, add salt, turmeric, cinnamon, nuts and dried fruits. Separately rub the orange peel and also add to the flour.

  3. In water or orange juice add sugar, vanilla sugar and vegetable oil. Stir the mixture to dissolve the sugar. Then mix the dry and liquid ingredients to a homogeneous state.
  4. Warm the oven to 190-200 degrees. Cover the form for baking with parchment paper or generously lubricated with vegetable oil. Pour the dough into the mold and send it to bake for 35 minutes. Also, the cake can be baked for 45 minutes at 170-180 degrees. The cooking time depends on the temperature in the oven.

  5. After cooking, let the cake cool, and then you can decorate it with powdered sugar at will.

Dried fruit cake: editorial advice If you want to add a highlight to this pastry, soak the dried fruit in a hot drink, not just in water. Raisins and apricots absorb intoxicating notes, and the cake will turn out even more saturated in taste.

Instead of orange peel, you can safely use lemon. However, without peel, the cake does not turn out as it should. This ingredient is very important if you want to taste the same phanuropite pie.

If you decide to cook a dish on orange juice, it is best to squeeze it yourself, rather than using store analogues. All this greatly affects the taste and aroma of baking. And in home juice there is no additional sugar, which is put in the drink in industrial production.

Any dried fruit can be added to this cake, except prunes. If you love him a lot, we have another recipe on the site where you need to cook pastries with freshly brewed natural coffee. Very unusual, try it!
