Watermelon crusts in our family do not throw away, showing that I cook from them

In summer, even the largest watermelon disappears from the table in a matter of minutes, but the crust of it remains a whole mountain. Not everyone knows that these leftovers will be an excellent ingredient for homemade sweets. If you are interested in non-waste cooking, we hurry to share a delicious life hack. Today's edition. "So Simple." will tell you how to prepare homemade watermelon candy, for which only watermelon crusts are needed. Preparation will take quite a long time, but the result is definitely worth it! Watermelon candy

The ingredients
  • 1.5 kg watermelon crusts
  • 1.5 kg of sugar
  • 2 l of water
  • half lemon (juice and peel)
  • 3 to 4 carnations


Preparation
  1. To begin, the crust must be cleaned of the peel and residues of watermelon.



  2. Then cut them arbitrarily with a thickness of about a centimeter and soak them in a soda solution for 2-3 hours. To do this, take 3 liters of water for 3 tsp. soda with a slide. Thus, in the future, the crusts will not break. After soaking thoroughly wash the watermelon crusts under running water.



  3. Add 0.5 kg of sugar and 2 liters of water, boil from the ingredients of the syrup. In the syrup we fill the prepared watermelon crusts and bring to a boil. Cook the watermelon so 10 minutes, then add another 0.5 kg of sugar, wait until it boils, and cook for another 10 minutes. Repeat the entire sequence once more with the remaining sugar. Then turn off the stove and leave the watermelon candy to cool for about 5 hours.



  4. Boil watermelon candy again for half an hour. Add to them cloves, lemon juice and peel. Now we have to taste everything. If the workpiece is not acidic enough, you can add a little citric acid to the taste.



  5. Last time boil the watermelon mixture in half an hour. Refrigerate, throw the contents of the saucer on the couch, so that the excess syrup leaks. The resulting workpiece must be laid out on a grille and cooked in an electric dryer at 70 degrees for 5 hours.





From 1.5 kg of watermelon crusts, approximately 800 g of finished delicacy is obtained. This method of cooking homemade candies can also be used for melon and even squash.
