Zero blood type will save millions of lives. Anyone can become a donor now.
The problem of blood donation is very acute in our society. This is primarily due to the shortage of donors, as well as the special requirements imposed on them. Doctors believe that this problem can be solved by overcoming incompatibility of blood groups.
Doctors have been working on the creation of a universal blood group for several decades. However, a major shift in research has only recently occurred.
Under the leadership of Henrik Clausen, a group of scientists from Denmark, the United States and Sweden developed a method to turn the blood of any group into the so-called zero (also called the first).
Human blood transfusion
Our blood is divided into four groups due to the presence of special antigens in it - agglutinogens A and B in erythrocytes, as well as agglutinins a and b in blood plasma. The blood of group zero contains only agglutinins a and b, while other combinations are observed in the other groups: the second group - A and b, the third - a and B, the fourth - A and B.
To turn the blood of any group into zero, the scientists used one of the enzymes of green coffee beans. But this approach did not give the expected results: the invention did not always work, there were annoying cases of blood incompatibility.
Then doctors decided to use several microbes: one bacterium expelled agglutinogen A, another agglutinogen B. After successful research, scientists used the services of the American company ZymeQuest, which, under their careful guidance, developed a special apparatus for the development of a new drug. blood-line.
