The daughter called and asked her husband’s parents to settle in our house by the sea, we refused, and she was offended.

Private house by the sea - A dream for a lot of people. After all, what could be better than to spend the whole summer, soaking in the rays of the warm sun? However, there are situations when the desired housing becomes an apple of discord in the family. Read about why this happens in our history today.

My husband and I live by the sea and rent out part of our house in the summer. I inherited this house once. The house is small and almost ruined, but the area around it was enough to build a dream hut.

That was the plan. First, build a place for yourself, and then think about expanding the house. After several years of hard work, we were able to realize our cherished dream.

Now we have a house with 3 rooms, two verandas and a cozy attic. Of course, my husband and I don’t need that much space. My daughter is married and lives in another city. So we decided to rent out part of the house in the summer to earn a penny and help relatives.

Our children have borne good fruit. For a couple of years, people have been calling and booking rooms in advance. In the summer we have paradise on earth! Moreover, for an additional fee, our guests receive home 3 meals a day. I love cooking, so I decided to monetize it. This is a family seasonal business.

I'll say even more. When our daughter and family come to visit us in the summer, she and her husband settle in the yard in a tent. Yeah, that sounds weird. But the daughter understands that this is for the common good. Our granddaughter, of course, is in our room. And young people feel great in such conditions.

And it would be fine, but this year my daughter called and said that they would not come. They want to go on vacation to Egypt. And then there was a rather strange request: "Mom, could you put Anton's parents in our place?" They haven’t been to the sea for a long time. I really want them to have a good rest.”

I confess that this statement discouraged me. First of all, I saw matchmakers once in my life at our daughter's wedding. Secondly, we need to settle these people for free. And I've already got everything painted in advance, people have booked rooms for the whole of July and August. That means I need to turn down one of the guests and lose a decent amount of money. Matchmakers want to live here for at least 2 weeks.

I discussed it with my husband. He does not want to quarrel with his daughter, but his common sense tells us that we cannot accept matchmakers. You see, we give most of the money we earn to our daughter, give gifts to our granddaughter. It's for her own good. Losing regular guests and living with unfamiliar matchmakers is simply stupid.

My daughter was very offended. Says my husband and I, business has made us heartless misers. How do I explain to my daughter that I turned her down because it would be better for everyone? She doesn't want to talk to me.

A private house by the sea is not only a dream, but also a great responsibility. Someone chooses a quiet and measured life without commitment. And someone likes to use all the opportunities that life gives.

To blame the heroine for her choice is wrong. He is not only trying for himself, but also for his family. But how do you get in touch with your daughter? Tell me, what would you do in the place of the main character? Boldly share your thoughts in the comments!
