"SkyCycle" - cycle paths over London
Sam Martin (Sam Martin), Director of the Department of architecture in London, proposed a revolutionary, although quite predictable project called "SkyCycle". It involves the construction of a futuristic glass tunnel, rising above the town – within a couple of years could quickly and safely move cyclists.
In addition to the exhaust and noise of city traffic is a serious threat to the life of a cyclist – after all, despite the fact that we all live like "civilized", many drivers do not recognize them as full-fledged road users and don't want to reckon with them. For this reason, the author of the project was forced to refuse from trips by bike around the city – even separate bike paths don't always soften the severity of the problem. And then, not everywhere can be arranged.
"We estimated the number of velo-flight today, the growing needs of London and made some predictions," Says Sam Martin. – "By 2020, the number of trips by Bicycle tripled to 1.5 million. And where people want to go? SkyCycle is the next logical step, because we can't really build more lanes on the ground level, not demolishing existing buildings. But if nothing is done, the traffic problem will be insoluble at all. It will be even less secure than now — and no one can convince people to sit on the bike, even if again to raise taxes on car use".
According to the project, glass Cycling paths can go around the old railway lines, but most of the bike paths will require the creation of new infrastructure. The cyclists will not be able to go anywhere they want because "SkyCycle" will have the inputs and outputs only at certain points of London. But this creates an air transport network for trips to the bakery around the corner – and are designed for rapid movement from one area to another throughout the city.
Such progress in the field of urban transport and Cycling will have a positive impact on the health of the residents of the capital: "Hello, pedal – goodbye, obese!" During the bike ride not only burned a large amount of body fat (especially in the hips), but also exercise the eye muscles: focusing on objects located far away, you can reduce the risk of myopia. In addition, the old Londoners will certainly note an improvement in emotional state, as Cycling strengthens the immune system and the nervous system, improves mood and overall health, gives resistance to stress.
It is assumed that cyclists will pay for the use of the "SkyCycle" about one pound per trip – although it is still cheaper than public transport. Sam Martin also hopes that the city could offset part of the cost – about £ 10 million — through corporate sponsorship. The mayor of London Boris Johnson (Boris Johnson) considers its duty to turn London into a civilized city — it notes that the project is very interesting and soon this issue will be submitted for consideration.
