Car graveyard Chatillon

Right in the middle of a small forest near Chatillon, a small village in southern Belgium, lies a graveyard of abandoned old cars. These cars once belonged to us soldiers who were stationed in the area. When World war II ended, all military troops were sent back to the U.S., but the cost of shipping all the machines were too expensive. So officials decided to leave all that stuff in Belgium. The cars were brought up the hill, one by one, nicely parked and somehow hidden from the outside world.

Back home in the US, provided soldiers the opportunity to return their cars, but it was necessary to take personal responsibility for all costs of shipment and delivery. Not a single car was returned in the end.

Formed four car graveyards around Chatillon, and as many as 500 vehicles. Today there is only one of them. For a long time corrosion and decay have erased the old body to the dust, and some were stolen automobile collectors and locals.
