Scientists of the School of electrical and computer engineering in the state of Georgia (USA) have invented a technology that allows to collect energy "from the air" with the help of electromagnetic radiation that are created by multiple transmitting devices.
This device combines a special sensor and a special antenna that is printed on the polymer film using an inkjet printer.
The team leader Manos, Tesseris told reporters: "we are surrounded by electromagnetic energy, which nobody gets. Using ultra-wideband antenna, we will be able to use different signals in different frequency bands, which will give us the chance to greatly increase the amount of energy".
In the future, as scientists say, these multi-frequency sensors can be placed on clothing.
That is, the power supply in wireless sensors will soon be widely available at very low prices.
If you combine this technology with other methods of production of electricity, for example, with solar panels that charged the batteries the day night will not be discharged.
During the test the scientists successfully "loaded" temperature sensor using electromagnetic energy received from the television transmitter, located at a distance of 400 meters. Now spend another experience in which they want to activate a microprocessor, a microcontroller — just holding it in the air.
