While chronic stress often increases the risk of heart attack and suppression of the immune system, scientists have found that short-term stress, on the contrary, able to increase performance and improve memory.

In the study, which was conducted on rats, the experts noticed that in rats who experienced stress, stem cells in the brain become a new nervous cells, which two weeks later, improved mental performance.

"Don't always see stress as a negative phenomenon. Sometimes stress can be useful, it can stimulate the brain activity," says Daniela Kaufer, associate Professor of integrative biology at the University of California, Berkeley.
