Salt contributes to the development of autoimmune diseases

Multiple sclerosis is one of a number of autoimmune diseases together with alopecia, asthma and eczema where a person's immune system mistakenly attacks self.

A few scientists from Yale University in USA and University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany say that excessive use of products with a high salt concentration may cause the development of autoimmune disease.

"This study is the first of its kind that displayed that excess salt may be one of the environmental factors that increase the risk of autoimmune disease", experts say. Scientists want to continue to study the effect of salt on the body, and try to find a method to alleviate the symptoms of patients who suffer from psoriasis, by reducing the amount of salt consumed.
