How food cures depression?
In the UK, in the experiments on a diet of depressed patients found that they almost do not consume fish and fruit prefer the fast food, chips, canned. At the same time, those who adhere to a Mediterranean diet (it is dominated by vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish) that are less susceptible to depression.
It is unclear why some products are able to reduce and others to increase the risk of depression, but researchers are inclined to believe that the most likely components of the Mediterranean diet improve the functioning of blood vessels, reduce the risk of heart disease, which in turn also lead to depression.
However, the point here is the combination of ingredients – with lots of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, flavonoids. All this together can provide sufficient degree of protection against depression.
