The first table, created based on human DNA
The creation of the Darwin table from the collection of the Dutch DNA for designers has been the inspiration of the human genetic code. The DNA was transformed by computer into a three-dimensional model on the basis of which it was designed the product.
This idea belongs to two designers Frank Tjepkema (Studio Tjep owner) and Eric Wolthuis(the founder of the company Dutch DNA). As the models worked the daughter of one of the founders of Giulia Wolthuis, a dancer and a model by profession. Her DNA was transformed into the table a strange shape.
The base of the Darwin table is made of plastic and has a complex dynamic form. The designers argue that the intricate curves of the products represent the dynamics of passion, youth, dance — all the qualities possessed by Giulia Wolthuis. Unlike conventional tables, the model of Darwin can be admired forever, so her face is unusual. The glass top creates the illusion of weightlessness.
Table Darwin first demonstrated at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2013. The motive for the creation of the model, as reported in the exhibition Eric Wolthuis, was the idea of creating unique furniture that would match the inner world of its owner. And as that DNA can identify a person, and took it as a basis of the genetic code. Designers claim that a couple of decades, a situation is created based on your own saliva will be everywhere.
