Dark oases: the unusual installation of paper and mirrors
Installation Fensterstock Lauren (Lauren Fensterstoc) contrary to all laws of common sense. The artist creates a luxurious composition of paper and mirrors, virtually indistinguishable from the natural landscape, however, is a riot of colors in her palette to only one color – black.
Dark and yet surprisingly realistic installations attract the attention of critics who are trying to find in the works of Lauren Fensterstock Gothic or decadent mood. The artist, by contrast, explains that the monochrome composition give the possibility of a more detailed focus on form. And indeed, grass, flowers, reeds and the vines look very realistic.
Lauren Fensterstock deliberately "deceiving" the audience does not justify our expectations. Flowers should be bright, colorful, but dark oases more like some post-apocalyptic landscapes. Despite this, the artist says that her landscapes have a special life-affirming force, she tries to show not scorched, dead nature, and breathing life, even colorless, but poetic.
In addition to the black paper, Lauren Fensterstock for their compositions and uses mirrors. A "mirror" of the lake give a special intrigue of installation: on a Sunny day reflect the bright colors of the street, and in cloudy – create cloud atmosphere inside the exhibition
hall.
By the way, Cultural studies.Russia we wrote about the works of Mexican artist Carlos Amorales, who was celebrated for his love of the color black. His installation, Black Cloud is a real cloud of... black moths.
