Installation of 6 thousand CDs at the entrance to Marine Park

Digital technology in the modern world is developing by leaps and bounds, it seems that in the near future, CDs will become a rarity as a bobbin, record or cassette. The architects of the Bulgarian company Ignatov Architects found a great use of old junk CD: recently in Varna was created a huge installation of six of the thousands of drives attached to an ordinary fishing nets. The art project was named "Culture Mirror" ("Mirror culture").

In creating the original installation involved 128 volunteers, including local residents and guests of the city. Network attached CD-ROMs installed at the entrance to the local Marine Park, which is considered the main attraction of Varna. By the way, the work of the design company Ignatov Architects is not the only case of "gentrification" parkland art objects from computer disks. A pioneer in this area is the designer Bruce Munro, who recently graced the digital water lilies Park and Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, and installed a disc the monuments in the Park surrounding the mansion of Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, England.

Installation at the entrance to Marine Park is especially good in the night light, as each disc shimmers a variety of shades of colors, creating an amazing shimmer. In addition, from the slightest breeze the whole structure is set in motion, which also captivates the audience.

Project coordinator Borislav Ignatov said that for a long time wanted to find a material that would refract the sunlight just as it makes ordinary fish scales. The CD is wonderful has performed certain functions "flexible mirrors", the author was quite happy with the result. The process of creating the art object and its flickering lit at night you can see on the video.
