In the Finnish Pavilion in Venice, two huts were built by Finnish and Chinese carpenters, who decided to demonstrate the unity of traditional building technologies used in different countries.

The project, called Re-Creation, was based on the concept of architect Anssi Lassil of the OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Architecture. This unusual eco-friendly installation will be open to visitors at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

The curators of the installation Ole Bowman and Juulia Causte sought to fit the main theme of the Biennale, which focuses on the eternal foundations of architecture. Two wooden structures were built by Finnish and Chinese teams, and the project was developed in collaboration with the Shenzhen BI-CITY Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (UABB).

Both structures were installed in front of a pavilion designed by Alvar Aalto in 1956. Their simplicity highlights the need for interaction between architects and local builders, and also demonstrates that traditional building methods should not be abandoned.

The main theme promoted this year by the curator of the Biennale, the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas is the fusion of tradition and modernity. This theme is highlighted by drawing parallels between the new structures and the famous Finnish pavilion. Using natural materials and natural light, architects redefined the concept of modularity and traditional construction. Located on opposite entrances of the pavilion, Finnish and Chinese installations show that modernist architecture can be classical and eco-friendly.
