Exo - an unusual city for people without housing

American inventor and businessman Michael McDaniel developed the Exo project of the city. The Exo city is a kind of tent camp for refugees, adjusted for the fact that refugees do not live in tents, but in economical minimalist houses.

McDaniel was inspired by Hurricane Katrina, which left thousands homeless. Today, Exo housing in terms of convenience is not much different from a tent, but as Michael himself notes, it was not created for a long stay in it.

Now the developer wants to improve his project. Today, a family of five can easily fit in an Exo house. Inside, the cabin resembles a train compartment or a boat cabin. The house is not completely blown and not wet, is able to withstand strong gusts of wind. The main drawback of Exo today is that there are no communications in the house and there is no possibility for them. That’s what Michael McDaniel wants to fix.

To date, Michael has prepared several concepts for the new Exo cabins, in which you can bring communications, in particular water and heat. Exo’s electric grid has undergone major changes – it is now autonomous for every house. Moreover, if necessary, several more can be connected to the network of one house if they have any problems.

The cabin frame and its components will also be modified to further reduce Exo deployment time. If the project is successful, the house can be fully deployed in just a few minutes. Passive ventilation in the new project has been replaced by hybrid ventilation – it will be possible to artificially ventilation by turning on the air filter. Michael needs another $50,000 to upgrade the Exo. The first batch of new houses will be sent as humanitarian aid to Syria.
