Daylight Gatherer LightCatcher – Energy Savings in Action
It is no secret that during the day the illumination of the room changes depending on the position of the sun on the horizon. Even if there are windows in the room, the lighting is not uniform throughout the day. About 150 years ago, this problem was solved by an electric lamp, but today such light can hardly be called “green”. Recently, a group of scientists from the University of Ghent (Belgium) developed an interesting project called EcoNation. The developers of this project have proposed a device that will allow a person to receive green light.
The new device is called LightCatcher. This unusual “intelligent” device, working exclusively on “green” mechanisms, allows in the full sense of the word “not to miss daylight”.
LightCatcher is a reflector in a protective bulb that rotates throughout the day after the sun and collects its light. Then, through the so-called “white corridors”, LightCatcher transmits light to the room, where it scatters it with the help of lamps. This allows you to achieve uniform lighting throughout the day.
Scientists from the University of Ghent noted that their invention can be useful for production facilities where there are no windows: warehouses of all types, hangars and garage spaces. Scientists believe that the use of LightCatcher will save significant amounts of electricity used only for lighting such rooms.
