Tea with bergamot heals the heart and reduces cholesterol

Tea Earl grey (Earl Grey) contains extract of bergamot, which, according to scientists, a very favorable effect on the cardiovascular system. This extract can be as effective as statins used to control cholesterol but which can cause side effects in patients.

Bergamot is a Mediterranean fruit, and its fragrance, bergamot tea gained such great popularity among fans of a hot drink.

A new study has suggested that bergamot contains enzymes known as hydroxymethylglutaryl flavanols, which can treat heart disease as effectively as statins.

The conclusion was made by scientists from the Italian University of Calabria. It turned out that the extract of bergamot not only reduces the level of so-called "bad" cholesterol and increases the level of what doctors call "good cholesterol".

Bergamot has long been used in traditional "folk" medicine in the Mediterranean countries not only as a means of prevention of heart disease, but also to treat wounds, inflammation and as an antiseptic.
