In Ukraine will begin labeling organic products
In order to identify organic food consumers in Ukraine have developed a procedure for their labeling.
According to the proposed procedure, labeling products as organic producers can only be provided with a certificate of conformity. In this case, the marking itself should consist of a public or private logo of organic products, under which the number of the regulatory authority is indicated, which consists of an acronym identifying the country in which the certified operator is located; a term that indicates a method that provides a reference to the method of organic production; the code of the certification authority.
In addition, the Ministry of Agrarian Products proposes to indicate on the labeling of organic products the country of origin of the goods, the manufacturer and the address of production capacities, the percentage of organic ingredients in relation to the total number of components of agricultural origin. For the labeling of processed foods, according to the draft resolution, the Organic Products logo can be used only if at least 95% of the weight of their ingredients of agricultural origin is organic.
In October 2013, the Law “On the production and turnover of organic agricultural products and raw materials” came into force in Ukraine, regulating relations in the field of production and turnover of organic products. The law also defined general rules for the production of organic products (raw materials) of animal and vegetable origin.
According to estimates of the Federation of Organic Movement of Ukraine, the volume of domestic consumption of organic agricultural products in monetary terms in the country in 2013 amounted to about 12 million euros, which is 52% more than a year earlier.
UNIAN reference. Organic agricultural products are products made without the use (or with less use) of synthetic pesticides, synthetic mineral fertilizers, growth regulators, artificial food additives, and without the use of genetically modified products.
