Curcumin helps in the fight against cancer

Researchers of the cancer center James Graham Brown (USA) are testing curcumin for the treatment of colon cancer.

This food ingredient has long been familiar to scientists as a tool that slows the growth and spread of some cancers and may increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy. However, curcumin is not easily absorbed by the cells of the colon, which reduces the efficiency of its application. Oncologists have developed a new way of delivering curcumin to where it is needed, using exosomes — bubbles of fat from fruit plants.

Doctors using a centrifuge, the fat bubbles combine with spice, which makes its transport to the tumor more reliable. In the experiment, scientists compare a new way of delivering curcumin with others. 35 patients diagnosed with colon cancer will take the drug for weeks. One group was curcumin with plant ectosomal, the other is the ordinary spice. The researchers then compared the participants ' scores with the control group. After surgical removal of the tumor, the experts will analyze the concentration of a substance in cancer tissue of patients.

Given that new drugs based on natural components, experts believe in no harmful and side effects. Dr. Emma Smith: "This clinical trial is at an early stage, and we have to prove that this new technology is safe for humans. Tests continue, and it will be interesting to see how a new way to deliver curcumin directly to the tumor, increases the power of natural substances".
