5 ways to speak more persuasively

A scene from the movie "the King's speech"

1. Slow down speech

More important, we believe what we say, the faster we want to give out this information. But, ironically, the faster we talk, the less effective our message is perceived. Any good speech is pronounced so slowly that it is possible to record by hand. How slow should I say? In normal situations, speak slightly slower than you think normal. For the most important moments speak more slowly. It operates in two directions: first, slow it looks convincing and solemn, and secondly, he himself becomes calmer and think better.

2. Pause instead of "uh-uh"

No one likes when a speaker repeats the so-called "words-parasites" or "uh-uh". The introduction of such words in speech can be explained by the attempts to divide the speech into meaningful units and the desire to stress certain points. Instead use "uh-uh", just try to insert a pause and to say those words to myself. Intuitively, this should happen precisely in those places where it is most needed pause.

3. Do accents

Nothing lulls companion is stronger than monotonous and lackluster speech. So make the diversity in your speech, using such techniques:

quieter/louder: Some words speak quieter than others. Quiet pronunciation force the interlocutor to listen, activates his attention.

faster is slower: the speed must not stay constant. Some suggestions say faster. The effect here is the same as with remission. If, following our first advice, you speak slowly, the sudden acceleration forces the listener to actively focus on speech.

do accents: place accents/stress in his speech, individual words or phrases. It also gets rid of the monotony of the speech and keep the attention of listeners.

4. Move

During a conversation try to move and gesture in accordance with the rate and content of speech. It will make more colors in your speech and make the speech more convincing. Look at the performances of well-known politicians, over which work the whole team of image-makers (perhaps that is why these performances often look so similar). The glance glides over the audience, the arms move, highlighting the main points in the speech, etc.

5. Use pauses in their favor

People are usually uncomfortable with the appearance of long pauses in the conversation. There was even a special term "awkward silence". However, you can deliberately pause in the conversation, thus creating tension and bringing the interlocutor into a state of heightened attention, to then start talking about what you think is most important.
