How to make cough drops with your hands

Cough drops are a great tool not only for coughs, but with persistent night cough when the attacks are so strong that I can't stop. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical lozenges can not cope with this task, so come to the aid of homemade candy based on sugar syrup.

Herbal cough drops:

1 Cup water

2 cups sugar

2 tablespoons honey

a quarter Cup of dried herbs (sage, wild cherry bark, elderberry). You can buy a ready collection of cough in pharmacy (breast) and add the mix.

During the 20 minutes simmer the herbs in water on a slow fire, covering the pot with a lid. Then strain the infusion and pour it back into the pot. Add sugar and honey, stir and bring to the boil, then gently simmer.

When heated, the mixture will become more viscous, so you need to constantly stir, preferably with a wooden spoon or spatula. When the mixture becomes quite viscous and begin to form thread then you need to do the following: drip a little syrup in a Cup of cold water, and bite of the frozen drop. If it is sticky and adheres to the teeth, then you need to boil the syrup some more. If you can crack drop, then the syrup is ready.

If the syrup begins to crystallize, you can add a little water and an additional spoon of honey to remove the crystals and keep cooking to desired consistency.

When the syrup is ready and fallen in a glass of cold water drop you can chew, take a sheet of parchment paper and pour on it a tea spoon a drop of syrup close to each other (but leave room to spread), cool and then remove the candy from the sheet of parchment. Wrap each candy in parchment or powder them with powdered sugar to make the candies do not stick together with each other. They can be stored in a glass jar.

Herbal cough lozenges (easy option):

To make the candy even easier, you can boil sugar syrup with honey to make lozenges with herbs.

1 Cup of honey

1 tablespoon dried herbs or herb mixture (see above)

Heat the honey in a saucepan, add the herbs. Bring to a simmer, and then remove the honey from the heat, cover and wrap for 10 minutes. Then strain the mixture of herbs and honey and pour it back into the pot. Now, follow the instructions above, heat the mixture on slow fire, do test the hardness of candy and remove from heat. Pour the candy with a teaspoon on a sheet of parchment paper, allow to harden, then wrap or roll in powdered sugar so they don't stick to each other.
