The road from the glowing bricks
Dr. Jose Carlos Rubio [José Carlos Rubio] from a Mexican University UMSNH created the cement from which it is possible to produce glowing concrete. Concrete with photoluminescence can accumulate the sun's energy during the day and then give it overnight for 12 hours. The inventor claims that the strength of such concrete will be sufficient for 100 years of use.
José Carlos began work on his cement 9 years ago. According to him, he realized that in the world there are similar materials, mainly because concrete is opaque, not allowing light to penetrate through it.
When adding cement to water is in the process of hydration, which yields a gel (structured system consisting of high molecular and low molecular substances). But beyond that, the material begin to form flakes of crystals, which is a by-product. The inventor worked on, in order to eliminate the formation of flakes.
If you receive Rubio cement will pass the necessary checks, made out the walls, buildings and even roads (in those climates that permit it) will be able to accumulate the light energy during the day and then glow at night, thereby saving huge amounts of electricity.
Rubio argues that in contrast to the photoluminescent plastics, which decompose from ultraviolet radiation, its cement conceptology and can serve for a hundred years. He has already received the material in two colors, blue and green. In addition, the maximum brightness of the material can be controlled during its manufacture to, for example, the luminous road is not blinded drivers.
The inventor patented his cement in Mexico. The invention is already interested in the Newton Fund, established by Royal engineering Academy of Sciences of the UK. The project is at the stage of commercialization. The author explores the possibility of creating luminous plaster on a similar principle. published
