The Achilles heel of intelligence

Everyone knows the legend of Achilles - is an ancient hero who led the victorious Greeks and was considered invincible, but he had a weak spot. Invulnerability he gave his mother when dipped into the waters of the River Styx, while she held the baby's heel, which is not exposed to the magic of water and remained vulnerable.

Today, scientists are looking for Achilles' vulnerability in our DNA code. And one of these vulnerabilities is very interesting. Acting on DNA, scientists were able to bring 33 kinds of smart mice, they are better trained and think faster than normal.

At the University of California at Los Angeles Alcina Silva has created its own line of smart mice and found that mice with a high level of intelligence were not able to deal with his fear. Only one type of electrodes with a weak electric current could paralyze them so terribly that they were shaking and on the spot.

One had the feeling that the mice remembered too much. Now it becomes obvious that it is necessary not only to remember a positive experience for normal development, but also to forget the negative. Probably for the best organization of knowledge is necessary to periodically "forget" unnecessary information.

This story is similar to the one known case, which occurred in Russia in 1920, neurologist AR Luria described the story of a man with a photographic memory. He writes that a person with such abilities might remember the original "Divine Comedy" literally, not even knowing the language. In general, this ability is very helpful in his work - he was a newspaper reporter, but with the understanding he has always had problems. New information is generated by the images that constantly conflict with already formed.

Between remembering and forgetting there must be a reasonable balance. If you forget too much, there will be opportunities to learn, and if you remember too much, the experience failure can be paralyzing. Only a reasonable balance between the two processes can generate the optimal approach to life. Do not let setbacks stop you earlier.
