Every truth has to be embellished, otherwise you will not be able to swallow it.
The Buddha said to the people: "When you comprehend your innermost core - you will disappear - anatta, no-self, there is no life, no soul. You will become a zero, zero and zero to dissolve in general. " Very close to perfect truth, but expressed in a very rigid form.
And who wants to be zero? People need to find eternal bliss. They are very tired, poor, those who are in terrible agony, suffering from all forms of madness. And they come to the master, and the master said: "The only cure - to become zero," - in other words, the disease can be cured if the patient would be killed. This is the literal translation. The real disease disappear when the patient would be killed, but you have come to be cured, not killed!
Religion has disappeared for five centuries. On it was a significant reason, and the main reason is that it was not necessary for people to taste, it was for them unattractive. She was naked and true, but who needs the naked truth.
I speak of the bliss of the blessing of the thousands of lotus flowers, blossoming in you. Then you think it's worth it to just sit in silence for an hour each day. If thousands of lotus flowers bloom within a thousand suns back, then it's worth it to choose one hour for twenty-four hours.
But the truth is that there are no lotuses, no sun - just pure nothingness.
