According to surveys, women do not like hairy men

People are not as hairy as our closest primate relatives, slightly puzzled evolutionary biologists. According to one theory, our relatively 'hairless' indicates that women had come to prefer the less hairy men to avoid lice and other bloodsuckers that live in the coat.

However, a new study says that "the avoidance of ectoparasites hypothesis" may not be entirely accurate explanations. Following an evolutionary perspective, men with less body hair should prefer in those countries where a high risk of infection with parasites, namely the closer to the equator.

Scholars from Slovakia conducted a study, asking 161 women from Turkey and 183 representatives of Slovakia to assess the attractiveness of men with hairy and hairless chest. Turk were chosen because in this country have higher levels of diseases caused by parasites, including malaria and dengue fever than in Slovakia. In this case, the representative of Turkey should have been more likely to prefer men with smooth breasts.

However, the results showed that very few women from both countries gave preference to men with thick vegetation on the chest. Only 20% of the fairer sex was considered hairy men attractive.

Scientists are going to test the theory in other countries. Earlier studies have shown that residents of China, New Zealand and the United States also prefer men with smooth skin.
