Pavel Durov. Why British plan for supervision not only useless but dangerous

st old tale about a dragon, which was impossible to win because every knight, kill him, he turned to the person with whom he fought - a dragon who lives in the same cave.

In a world where politicians are obsessed with fighting terrorism regardless of price, there is a risk that they will win depriving us of freedom, just like in those environments that give rise to terrorists.

David Cameron, the British prime minister, who called Facebook a safe haven for terrorists two months ago, said yesterday about the project blocking all means of communication that his government could not listen. As usual, under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

Intelligence program proposed by Mr. Cameron, will not help in the fight against the real terrorism. In serious terrorist organizations there are many ways to get around listening. In addition to the good old conventional language, they can use programs that hide information in the invisible image noise on the funny pictures. They may incorporate noise information encrypted within harmless voice messages or video random metadata. Possibilities are countless.

As a result, Mr Cameron will spend taxpayers' money is wasted. Unless, of course, his true goal is not something else.

If we look at the statistics and hard facts, terrorism - is not the most serious threat that we are facing today. There are hundreds of terrible diseases that kill thousands of times more people than the terrorists, not to mention the accident. In fact, each year more people die slipped on a rug in the bathroom than from terrorists. But politicians are paying a disproportionate amount of time these issues. On the contrary, they tend to be interested in those areas that can increase their own power and resources - at the expense of our freedom and money.

Of course, the terrorists attract more of our attention than illness or accidents, because they attack our values. And that is why Mr Cameron's oversight plan so dangerous. If the law proposed by the prime minister ever to be held, the terrorists will win more every expectation. They succeeded in forcing us to betrayal of values. If Britain, one of the beacon of freedom, take such restrictive laws, the other countries, for sure, will follow the example, and Western civilization will begin to change.

In the end we will stand surveillance cameras in every bedroom (remember "it's for your own safety" and "if you have not done anything wrong, you have nothing to hide"), there will be no explosions. Not because these cameras will actually prevent terrorist attacks. There will be no explosions, because once we accept the notion of fear and control, the terrorists will no longer have any conflict with our civilization.

We killed the dragon. And this cave will be our new home.
