A miracle happened, the viper on the Maidan was finally dispersed. For those who do not follow the news, all sorts of idlers and alcoholics have recently lived in the very center of Kyiv. The current Maidan, which began as a protest action and gathered tens of thousands of indignant Kievans, had nothing to do with the Maidan. I don't understand how the people of Kyiv endured this whole thing for so long. But the utilities, despite the protests of the "indigenous residents" of the Maidan, demolished the remains of the barricades, removed tires and other garbage. They say that even the Christmas tree was finally dismantled!

For a short time I rejoiced at the liberation of Kiev from the Maidan. I opened the news, and they wrote: "In Kyiv, traffic on Khreshchatyk has been completely restored, only two tents remain on Independence Square."

In no case should you open traffic on Khreshchatyk! The center of Kyiv should become pedestrian! Kyiv residents have already managed to get used to the fact that there is no through passage along Khreshchatyk, this, according to local residents, did not affect the situation with traffic jams in any way. Moreover, many note the improvement of the transport situation.

Appeal to the people of Kyiv - demand a pedestrian Khreshchatyk! Write a letter to Klitschko, arrange a rally, now is the time to recapture Khreshchatyk! Don't be fooled!

Now there are practically no high-quality spaces in Kyiv. The city needs to have an iconic place that is intended not only for tourists, but also for residents of the city. The existing spaces, although intended for pedestrians, have a number of problems, besides, on Khreshchatyk there are wide sidewalks that are separated by a road. When cars could still drive on the road, there was a problem with parking on the sidewalks, which is unacceptable. The pedestrian space itself looks incoherent, with a lot of unnecessary elements, and to cross the street, you need to go down to the underpass.

Underground passages and all hellish underground shopping centers appeared in the late nineties under Kuchma, the street and the entire surrounding space lost their orientation to pedestrians. Since that time, it has not been changed globally, and only minor elements have been added that did not qualitatively change the space, everything was done "to fuck off".





We divided the whole of Khreshchatyk into 4 zones. Khreshchatyk will turn into a completely pedestrian street from Bessarabska Square to Maidan Nezalezhnosti.

From Bessarabska Square to Bogdan Khmelnitsky Street. This part of Khreshchatyk will develop as a European fair (do not confuse it with a regular market). It will have a fresh food trade, many cafes, and an entertainment area with various activities.


The area opposite the Kyiv City Hall. It would be a good idea to make a recreation area here, there could be a large clearing where you can lie and relax, play badminton and table tennis, while the authorities work.


Behind this area there is another area with a café, dry fountains (fountains that gush out of the ground).


Next there may be large street chess, pétanque, dance floors, an open-air cinema, and in winter there will be a large skating rink.


Opposite the conservatory building, it would be cool to have an open-air concert venue, where various musical performances will take place several times a week.

All four zones could be united by a common approach. They would be filled with elements of urban improvement, easily transformed and moved, which in turn would make it possible to reformat the space and change the functional meaning of this place with minimal effort. At the same time, if all illegal street stalls are removed, advertising space is significantly reduced, then people would look at the beautiful architecture of the main street of the city. Underground passages will be closed for crossing. They cannot be left for office space, but part of the area can be left for trade.

There is an opinion that it is not necessary to completely ban car traffic on Khreshchatyk due to the inability to drive up to houses. The answer to this question can only be obtained by conducting a study...
