Volvo tests its robotic vehicles on public roads

Many automakers are now creating their own cars with the "autopilot", which allows the driver to read the book in a way to relax. Such a car, the most famous of which is done at Google, he monitors the workload of the road, he controls the speed, he goes around obstacles or stops.

In general, Volvo has long been working on designing your own robot vehicle, and now this work is in the testing phase. Project Team «Drive Me», this is the name of the relevant unit, tests S60 cars with autonomous control on real roads, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

It was in this city is the headquarters of the company, so the choice is clear. Common path for the test - 50 kilometers.

A self test of the system is to verify the possibility of such a vehicle to keep a certain band on the road, change the speed, watch out for traffic on the road, and react accordingly.

Ideally, such a system would be to drive a car instead of the driver, who can really read a book / flipping his presentation, as shown in the photo.

Gradually, these systems will be introduced in the company's cars, starting with the XC-90, which will be released later this year. However, in the first models will be introduced only advanced cruise control system and edge detection of the road. Over time, the "autopilot" in ordinary cars will become more and more perfect. Well, the current test will show how it will work in the near future.

It is worth noting that in the framework of the project «Drive Me» is planned to produce 100 test cars now checked first copies.
