Volvo XC90 - hybrid SUV

The top version of the all-wheel drive Volvo XC90 of the new generation will be equipped with a hybrid power plant, carbon dioxide emissions of which will be only 60 grams per kilometer. The power of the installation will be 395 hp with a torque of 640 Nm. In addition, among the configuration options of the SUV two diesel engines.

The main component of the T8 Twin Engine is a new gasoline four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger, supercharger and front-wheel drive. To its 316 “horses”, if necessary, the electric motor responsible for the rear axle adds another 79 hp. In this way, the hybrid Volvo XC90 implemented four-wheel drive.

Volvo considers the T8 to be one of the highest powertrains of all SUVs, but it is combined with unusually low emissions. While the famous and popular Prius produces 89 g/km of carbon dioxide, the hybrid Volvo XC90 only produces 60. It should be remembered that we are talking about a heavy SUV, which can fit seven Vikings.

The European Union hopes that the average CO2 emissions of all cars on the continent will be 130 g/km in 2015 and 95 g/m in 2020. With the start of sales of the Volvo XC90, a car will appear on European roads that doubles the goals of politicians.

A clean four-cylinder engine literally punched its way. Many people thought that 4 cylinders is not enough for a car of such a class as an SUV. Lex Kerssemakers, senior vice president of product strategy at Volvo, said: I can assure you that we didn’t win the popularity contest at the start. But I think we absolutely hit the top ten with these engines.”

The driver of the XC90 will be able to choose the driving mode exclusively on electricity and charge the battery if necessary. One charge is enough for a run of up to 40 km.

In the range of engines updated Volvo XC90 will also be two conventional turbodiesel, both with four cylinders. The diesel engine marked D5 has a power of 222 hp and a torque of 470 Nm. Power D4 lower, 187 hp at 400 Nm of torque. The combined fuel consumption will be 5 l/100 km for the D5 and 4.2 l/100 km for the D4. Appetites of the hybrid power plant T8 Volvo has not yet announced.

It is expected that the release of the new XC90 will begin at the end of this year. It will replace the first generation model, which has been on sale for more than 11 years, and will become Volvo’s largest SUV.

The design of the novelty embodies the conceptual solutions of the XC coupe, presented at various auto shows last year. In the luxurious interior, there was a place for a touch screen on the dashboard, with which most of the functions of the car are controlled.
