3 photo gadget + small article via 3dnews
The German manufacturer of tablet PCs, Neofonie, is going to release WePad - a competitor to Apple iPad, to the technical advantages which include increased screen area, the presence of the webcam, and outputs USB. The device weighs only 120 grams more than the iPad.
However, the founder and managing director of a small Berlin-based Neofonie (staff comprises 180 people), Helmut Hoffer von Ankerskhoffen (Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen) modestly notes that their product - not a "killer iPad», as it is called in some blogs, and more likely alternative.
Mr. Ankerskhoffen noted that two USB ports allow users to connect to any compatible device WePad, from external keyboards to flash trinkets, and people who want to listen to music on their WePad, are not obliged to use strictly defined software like Apple ITunes.
The basic version of the WePad, which has support for Wi-Fi and 16 GB of available storage space, will cost European buyers at € 450 ($ 600), and the version with optional built-in 3G-modem and 32 GB of memory will cost € 570. For comparison - iPad 16GB with Wi-Fi support in the US is $ 500.
WePad Tablet is equipped with 11, 6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768, working on energy-efficient x86-based Intel Atom N450 processor with an integrated graphics core. The operating system is a Google Android, providing support Adobe Air application and Flash. The device gets on the shelves at the end of July and at that time will also be equipped with a full-fledged office suite programs.
Mr. Ankerskhoffen argues that technological superiority WePad and openness of this device makes it a relative bargain with an iPad.
In a preliminary order, as reported by the creators of the WePad, has an interest of more than 20 000 people, but will begin to accept orders only after April 27.
