Created 3D-printer that can print details of carbon fiber

The exhibition SolidWorks 2014, which was held in late January in San Diego, the company MarkForged introduced 3D-printer that can print not only plastic, but also carbon fiber . Printed parts of carbon fiber is five times stronger and twenty times harder parts of ABS. Flexural strength along fibers is higher than that of aluminum alloy 6061-T6 of the same weight. This grade aluminum is widely used in aviation and shipbuilding, like domestic brand aluminum - AD33 . In addition to carbon fiber and ABS Mark One printer can print fiberglass and nylon. Print fibrous materials used separate printhead special design.

In MarkForged stress that is used for printing continuous filament carbon fiber, and not just from a polymer filled with short carbon cloth. This gives products durability comparable to carbon fiber, made an industrial way - printed details on the average yield to the best commercial grade carbon fiber three times, but full control over the disposition of the fibers during printing allows you to lay them exactly as required by the operating conditions, so that 100% of the fibers were in the right direction. It is impossible for the manufacture of carbon fibers of the carbon cloth, wherein the fibers are interwoven at an angle of 90 degrees.

Printer resolution is 100 microns print nylon and ABS and 200 - printing of carbon and fiberglass. The maximum size of the printed products - 305h160h160 mm. Since the printing of fibrous materials used separate head, you can print two materials at the same time - the usual plastic and fiber combining these materials in one piece. Mark One price is quite high, but not prohibitive - five thousand dollars.
