Japanese robot SCHAFT S-One won the qualifying tournament DARPA Robotics Challenge

In the final qualifying tournament DARPA Robotics Challenge, which took place on December 20-21, победила Japanese team SCHAFT robot S-One, with 27 points out of 32 possible. It is noteworthy that this little Japanese startup recently acquired corporation Google, which seems to have seriously set about robotics - for the last year Google купил eight robotics companies, including Boston Dynamics .

SCHAFT S-One - undersized (1 m 48 cm in height), but the "broad" (1 m 31 cm in width), weighing 95 kg robot. It is based on another highly successful model HRP-2 . One of the main distinguishing features of the robot - his physical strength. It uses the специально actuators designed with a very high peak power. They are electric motors, combined with capacitors that are capable of at the right time to give a powerful impetus to the current. Engines to withstand such a mode of operation, it is necessary to use hydraulic cooling. This allows the robot to keep the balance and confidence to respond to sudden shocks better than hydraulic robots Boston Dynamics.

One of the earliest prototypes SCHAFT weighing 53 kg keeps the balance after the knocks and bounces on 44 cm. I>

In addition SCHAFT, in the final stage of the competition DARPA, which will take place in December 2014, included seven other teams. Here is the list of finalists:

SHAFT (27 points) IHMS Robotics (20 points) Tartan Rescue (18 points) MIT (16 points) a href="http://www.theroboticschallenge.org/node/60"> RoboSimian (14 points) TRAClabs (11 points) WRECS ( 11 points) TROOPER (9 points)
