When the shooting of the program “In the world of animals” began, the mother of Nikolai Nikolaevich closely followed each issue. She watched her son in the frame, what and what words he says. This was a pilot project and until the transfer gained popularity, a very narrow circle of people was engaged in filming it. These were people who were called professionals. Among them was Alexander Mikhailovich Zguridi, a talented film director. He enjoyed making naturalistic films, which later became the basis of the program “In the Animal World”. It was thanks to Alexander Mikhailovich that this program went on air and became so popular.
Nikolai Nikolayevich always merrily recalls the stories from the filming of the film “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi”. Together with Zguridi, they went on expeditions in Africa. And there was an idea to make a film about mongoose and cobra. The first filming took place in Africa, and then I had to return to Moscow. But the crew returned not empty-handed, but with seven cobras and six mongoose, and in addition with an Indian cobra tamer. No hotel in Moscow dared to take such guests. And Nikolai Nikolaevich offered to shelter a cobra in his apartment. It was summer and my wife and daughter lived there. For guests from Africa, a separate room was allocated and every morning they were transported to the service Seagull for filming. In the evening, the whole company returned to Nikolai Nikolayevich’s apartment.
The film “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” turned out to be full-length and artistic. In the beginning, no one expected a real masterpiece. Nikolai Nikolayevich perfectly managed to get along with various animals. He was never afraid of them and could persuade an elephant to go in the right direction. His optimism, positive attitude and always respectful attitude towards people made him not just an animal lover. His stories, scientific works, films and archives of programs will educate many generations of young people with care and respect for the world around them.
