A doctor from Chelyabinsk Evgeny Kosovsky every week helps the homeless

Everyone wants to live better and the world has changed. But most people do not do anything about it. To make the world a better place, you have to start with yourself. This truth has long been understood by a young doctor from Chelyabinsk. Eugene Kosovskywhich has been free for the past year homelessness.

Editorial "Site" He believes that the stories of such people should be shared, because they help us not to lose faith in humanity.

Walking past the homeless, we often look away, pretend that we do not notice them. If you don’t see it, then there is no such problem. Many people think so, but not the hero of today’s article. Now Yevgeny Kosovsky is 30 years old, he has two diplomas - manager and veterinarian. He is currently getting a third, a paramedic. It helps him a lot in what he is doing now.

Every week, on their only day off, Zhenya and two of his assistants drive to the heating main where homeless people gather and treat everyone who needs it. But perhaps it is worth telling this story from the beginning.

A little over a year ago, Evgeny met a homeless man near his entrance. The man was freezing. Kosovsky recalls: “He froze and fell asleep. Got him hot tea, warm clothes. When they began to change socks, it turned out that his fingers were frostbitten - wound treatment and dressing were required. The next day he came to the entrance with friends - everyone needed the help of a doctor.

And Eugene began to help, people began to come to his house every day. But other residents of the entrance were not pleased with such visits. The homeless were forced to leave, so they stopped coming. Then Evgeny began to go to them himself: to heating pipes, points for collecting non-ferrous metals and glass containers. At first, the guy only had one patient, and now people are lining up.

About 30-40 people come to meetings. There are different people here – from 23 to 86 years old, and each of them has its own story. Some need to bandage wounds, others need to cure a cough, and someone just to talk humanely. Patients trust Dr. Zhena, as they call him, and tell their stories.

One man ended up on the street because he gave his apartment to a pregnant daughter and her husband. A lonely old woman, who comes constantly, lost her apartment due to fraud. People often find themselves on the street because of a family breakdown. There are many reasons, but the bottom line is this: these people need help.

According to the doctor, there are volunteer organizations in Chelyabinsk that provide material assistance to the homeless, bring things and feed them. But, in addition, people living on the street are in dire need of medical care. Yevgeny says, “This is their only chance to get medical attention.” As a rule, they do not have a policy or passport, and our laws do not allow undocumented people to be kept in hospitals for more than three days.

Doctors want to help, but they can’t. Well, the homeless themselves, even when something serious happens to them, do not go to the hospital or clinic: they smell, they know perfectly well that they will wrinkle in line, showing neglect.

Many people think that this is in vain work, because such people can no longer help. But that's not true! A third of Evgeny’s patients have now started to recover: they were washed, restored their documents and even found work – they are guarding parking lots, cleaning snow in yards. Some even got housing. Even so, but this is their chance to feel needed, to feel human in the end.

Why is that? Yes, because they treated people kindly and did not demand anything in return, here they woke up dignity, the desire to change something. It is believed that a person who has lived on the street for more than three years has already passed the point of no return. But Kosovsky is sure that this is not the case and there are always chances, you just need to remind the homeless about it.

Each trip to the heating line costs about 10 thousand rubles. Most of them are good people who want to help. If there is something missing, Evgeny invests his money. The man called his project “Other medicine” and created a group in social networks, where he makes a report on each exit. The goal of the project is to change the attitude of people to the homeless. He doesn’t ask them to love him, he asks them not to hurt him.

After all, there are many cases, sometimes the cruelty of people amazes. One day Evgeny lost a patient, who was doused with gasoline by schoolchildren and set on fire. The man's body was badly burned, and he refused to go to the hospital. That’s why Evgeny urges to be more human and treat the homeless as people.

The doctor says, "If there's a homeless person in your driveway, don't call the police." Do not give money for various reasons (sometimes they quarrel and fight over money between themselves). It is best to drink sweet, hot tea, feed and give warm clothes. Only then you can ask him to leave the entrance, warmed up – he will get to his “home”.

Sometimes a little kindness is enough to change the world around you. And it’s great that there are such amazing people who constantly prove this in practice. Thank you to these people for everything, because they involuntarily believe that humanity still has a chance. Remember, just start with yourself.
