Scientists have developed a special test aimed at assessing the ability of older people to admit their mistakes.
The test was conducted with 77 volunteers. The volunteers were divided into two groups: the first group consisted of 38 people, whose average age was 22 years, the second of 39 people, whose age was 68 years.
The results of the test showed that the participants of the first group recognized the mistakes made by them in 75% of cases, while the representatives of the second group only in 63% of cases. At the same time, scientists noted that the elderly were absolutely sincerely convinced of their rightness.
In addition to the test itself, the researchers observed changes in the subjects’ behavior while admitting their mistakes. They were able to notice some pattern. At the time of admitting their own mistakes, the pupils significantly dilated, and in representatives of the older age category, when errors were detected, the pupils did not change their size.
So far, it has not been possible to find out exactly what changes in the autonomic nervous system affect the deterioration of the ability of older people to notice their mistakes. However, in the future, scientists plan to conduct additional experiments to determine this.
