The son of a mother friend brought a barrel pump to the country, relatives carry it in their arms

It's a busy spring. It's hard to do everything and not miss anything. Therefore, it is time to remember about mechanical assistants that can make life easier for the owners. For example, a barrel pump is a real salvation for summer residents who are already tired of running around the garden with buckets and waterers.

Nothing can please a gardener so much as a generous harvest. However, without regular watering, all the work and efforts are unlikely to pay off. Given this, the choice of a device for watering garden plants should be approached thoroughly.

As we have already written, rain settled water is best for watering vegetables. Its temperature should be raised to 18 degrees, otherwise there is a chance to ruin the root system of plants.

Therefore, even water from the tap is better to pre-pour into a barrel to give it a little warm up and saturated with oxygen, and in the evening water. When choosing a pump for irrigation from a barrel, it is important to take into account its technical capabilities and understand whether the conditions on the site correspond to them.

  1. The pump performance is directly related to the irrigation area. According to statistics, on irrigation of a square meter beds on average consume from 3 to 6 liters of water per day. From here, watering the garden in 3 acres will require up to 1800 liters of water. 1937-27

In the pump instructions, performance is usually indicated by the letter “Q”. In our case, it should be at least 1800 liters per hour.

  2. The pressure indicates the height from which the pump is able to lift water. If watering is carried out from a barrel located on the same level with the ground, then 1 meter vertically is equal to 10 horizontally. Naturally, the further the beds from the place of water intake, the final pump performance will be lower.
  3. The choice of pump affects the type of irrigation (raining, drip). With a drip, you can do with a less powerful device. It will take more pressure to rain.

For example, consider the well-proven barrel pump KARCHER BP 1 BARREL SET. This is a submersible unit with a capacity of 400 watts, with a capacity of up to 3800 liters per hour and a pressure of 11 meters.

On the package there is information about the change in performance depending on the depth of the pump immersion. So, with a dive depth of 10 meters, the productivity will significantly decrease and will be only 400 liters per hour. That has to be considered.

The kit includes a mount for fixing the elements of the pump on any container. There is also a float switch. Thanks to it, you can set up an automatic shutdown of the pump at a given water level, eliminating the risk of dry work.

The weight of the pump without additional accessories is 4.6 kg. This makes it easy to move it around the site. The set includes the pump itself, a power cable 10 meters long, fittings, a 1/2 hose 15 meters long and a convenient spray gun with several modes of operation.

To start work, lower the pump into the barrel. Next, securely fasten the plastic fixator with a float on its edge. The power cable lies freely in the barrel, its length is more than enough to immerse the pump (you can do without an extension cord).

Turn the network cable into the socket, turn the switch on the float in the "On" position and you can water. Now watering the garden will only be a joy, no more leaching and dragging water.
