How much might the contents of a grandmother's sideboard cost
The other day I was cleaning in the attic of my grandmother's old house. What is there not! I was especially surprised by the old dishes. Oddly enough, but much has been preserved in a fairly good condition. For example, the Madonna service is almost as good as new, only a couple of cups are a little broken, but even now, brew tea and drink in pleasant company.
Now antiquaries are ready to sell the soul for the dishes of those times. My friend, the buyer, Benjamin, has been begging for my set of glasses in the form of fish for the second year already. I resist, I do not want to give up for all the money in the world!
Old dishes Today, the editorial board of "Site" has prepared for you, dear reader, a selection of antiques from the Soviet era , which can be profitably sold in our time. Who would have thought, but I wanted to throw this stuff away!
Soviet service In the days of the Land of the Soviets, a porcelain service stood in the sideboard of almost every family and was not only a decoration of the house, but also a sign of wealth. True, they drank tea from it only on holidays.
But despite careful handling, some fragile porcelain items were certainly broken, lost or chipped. Today it is not easy to find a fully preserved porcelain service from the Soviet era without visible damage.
Most appreciated is the Madonna service. A feature of this service can be considered a painting made in retro style. All cutlery included in the set are decorated with images of half-naked girls. The painting pattern is decorated with gilding. The porcelain itself in this service is of a fairly high quality, as, incidentally, are all similar dishes produced in the GDR.
For a complete Madonna table set of 48 items, you can get around 450 euros. The tea set "Olympiada-80" (produced by Likino-Dulyovo) for 5 persons is put up for sale for 136 euros and more.
Crystal Crystal also took pride of place in the Soviet sideboard . Crystal glassware was carefully rubbed and displayed as proof of wealth and prosperity. Now the demonstration of crystal in open cabinets is considered, if not vulgar, then bad form.
Most of these dishes have now lost their value, but there are exceptions. For example, pre-revolutionary crystal is priced between 40 and 500 euros.
Cup holders I associate cup holders with Soviet trains. The sound of train wheels, a full reserved seat and a full conductor carries glasses of tea in iron cup holders.
It turns out that old cup holders can be a real treasure! The most valuable are silver cupholders with the author's stamp. A silver Swans cup holder with a silver handle can cost about 200 euros, but for a cupronickel cup holder "Spartakiada 1959" you can get 19 euros.
Samovar Drinking tea from a samovar is a pleasure! With the advent of electric kettles, the demand for samovars, of course, diminished. But its 250-year history does not leave alone not only connoisseurs of antiquity , but our compatriots and foreign guests. Samovars are presented as souvenirs, presents and gifts.
An ordinary electric nickel-plated or brass three-liter samovar with dents, scuffs and chips costs no more than 10 euros, but connoisseurs are ready to pay about 150 euros for a 7-liter wood-fired nickel-plated samovar.
Cast iron cookware Real Soviet cast iron is now highly valued! If you do not soak such a frying pan for a long time and do not store food in it, cast iron pans can be used for up to 100 years or more.
I got such a frying pan from my grandmother. I remember how she said that since time the food in them turns out to be more and more delicious!
For a 12-liter cast iron with a lid, you can get about 60 euros, for a cast-iron pan for frying tobacco chicken and all 90 euros, and for a frying pan without a handle - 28 euros.
Bakeware Do you remember nuts with condensed milk? Previously, in order to make these delicious cookies, housewives bought special hazelnuts , similar to two pans with cells welded together. And at home I also had a wonderful GDR waffle iron for thin waffles, we still bake in it.
The approximate cost of such molds today: cookie mold "Oreshki" as new - 80–96 euros. Cookie mold "Nuts" in a very shabby condition - 12-15 euros.
Old cookware Pyre The heat-resistant cookware of this French brand is still popular with housewives. However, for culinary specialists, dishes that are twenty years old and more are of particular value.
The cost of such dishes is from 12 to 150 euros.
Christmas decorations The demand for Soviet Christmas decorations is growing among collectors. The most appreciated are toys not made of glass and porcelain, but of cotton wool, which were made in the first half of the 20th century, and balls with propaganda paintings.
They are priced between 20 and 185 euros per toy.
Editors' advice And for those who, after reading, wanted the same "Nut" cookies with condensed milk, as in childhood, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with this recipe. It turns out so delicious that there are no shoplifting nuts. Homemade ones are a hundred times better, especially if you cooked them together with the whole family!
Vintage items are back in fashion! The old dishes of those times were made for centuries, which means you can use it for so long that with careful handling, it will be enough for your grandchildren. In addition, the workmanship and material composition were top notch. And, of course, many people buy these things because of nostalgia for the past .
Tell us in the comments if you are the owner of such Soviet antiques ? How do you deal with it: throw it away, store it or sell it?
