Husband accuses me of spending money from the family budget on trifles, but I don’t agree
The family budget can be a stumbling block even in the most ideal relationships. Everyone knows the situation when money is not enough, and you need to stretch it for a long time. If something is not enough, quarrels and mutual accusations begin. Shared money in a family is a good thing, but only when there is enough. Our history is yet another proof of this.
Editorial "Site" It tells a story in which money has caused discord in the family. We will also tell you how to organize the family budget so that there are no problems.
In the morning, I was going to work as usual. I made tea and sandwiches and had breakfast. My husband was sitting next to me and sipping his tea. Then I remembered that the sausage was the last to cut the sandwiches. I tell my husband, leave me some money so that I can run after work for groceries.
Then he looks up and dissatisfied with me, he says: “And what did you spend your money on?” I'm choking, for God's sake. He said as if I were making millions, not a few thousand. It was so sad that I didn’t even have a response.
Let me tell you a little about our family. We live in four: me, my husband and two children (ages 9 and 5). When the youngest went to the garden, I decided to go to work. Of course, the priority was not career growth and a large salary, but a convenient location near the house and loyal superiors. When two children are at home, you often have to take sick leave or take a few hours earlier.
My work is not dusty, but not very profitable. I work until 4, and then I pick up the kid from kindergarten, buy groceries, cook dinner and do other household chores. My husband makes good money, but for a family of four, it's close enough. There are months when the last couple of days sitting on cereals and potatoes, waiting for the coveted SMS with the salary.
I try to save every penny, because it is impossible to live at zero, without savings at all. My husband and I have had this conversation many times, he keeps complaining that we spend a lot, we need to save. I tell him not to spend less, but to earn more. Otherwise it won't work. But he was getting more and more grumbling about it.
A fight over money, but it's never come to outright quarrels before. He said that today. What did I spend my money on? Let's think about it. Twice she bought groceries for a week, gave her son pocket money, paid for lunches at school. Plus, this month, the communal was paid out of my money. That's all, actually. My salary won't be enough.
That morning I calmly explained to him where the money had gone. And he came in tonight and continued that stupid tirade. Now he demands that I show him all the statements and checks from the purchases. He says I'm spending money somewhere, but I don't tell him. I have nothing to hide, but why do I have to? Anyway, this is my money. Yes, we share money in the family, but why should I account for it? Why would you say that?
Editorial opinion Such situations are not uncommon. Money issues often lead to quarrels and conflicts. How do we resolve this particular situation? We think the solution is an organized family budget. After all, now the couple just spend money, not really thinking about where and how much. If they were doing home bookkeeping, things would be much easier.
Usually, routine spending is repeated from month to month. So why not calculate the specific amount you need for a month and put it in a separate account or put it in a box at home? This will show you where the money went. You can also record spending for at least one month and see what you spend the most.
The fact that the husband requires the wife to show discharges is not entirely correct. He must understand that his money goes to his family. I don’t know if anyone pays her homework. Since she earns money herself, she has the right to spend something on herself.
There must also be trust in the family. And when it comes to this kind of bickering, it's time to change something. Otherwise, there is a huge risk of ruining the family in a flat place. What do you think should be done in such a situation? How is the budget in your family?
