Why would a father take out a hornet nest and show his son how it works?
In my country, under the roof on the porch, an empty wasp nest has long been hanging. The wasps left their house, and at first I just wanted to take the nest to the woods. But my son’s curiosity got the better of us. waspTo see how its inhabitants live. We decided to do a little scientific research.
To be honest, I wanted to see what was inside. I've never asked myself this question before, and it's really interesting. In addition, my son is now the age of the reason - he is interested in everything he sees around.

Our study was successful, it turned out to be very exciting and informative. We called our mother, grandparents – we studied the wasp nest of all relatives.
To the touch, the structure of the nest resembles paper that wasps make from dilapidated wood. The nest consists of several such layers, and inside the hornet house are honeycombs. We cut the nest in half and found many hexagonal cells that are firmly held together.
I was sure the nest would be empty because no one had flown there in a week. However, to our surprise, we found tenants there. Inside the honeycombs found small aspen cubs. It turns out that unlike bees, which store honey in honeycombs, wasps there breed their offspring.
These cells are covered with special white “caps”: in some live almost mature individuals, in others – only insect larvae. Our nest turned out to be inhabited, so we carefully folded it back and took it to the forest. I hope the parents of the cubs find their offspring and enjoy life in the woods.
If you need to get rid of a wasp nest in the country, it is better to use household insecticides or special aerosols. Also suitable folk methods: detergent, smoke screen or traps and baits for wasps. In the most difficult cases, it is better to call an insect control service.
I would also like to say that in any case do not disturb the nest, if there are still wasps. They will defend their home and may mistake you for an enemy. A wasp bite can be very painful, and in the most severe cases cause allergies. So be careful if wasps, like us, live in your cottage.
