Why do people amicably nostalgic for the USSR, writing fables about it

The Soviet Union collapsed three decades ago, but many people still remember life in that vast country. They continue to argue that then life was better and freer, everyone had enough and confidence in the future. Although problem There were, but this does not prevent a variety of myths and misconceptions about that time to grow stronger over the years.

Today's edition. "Site" The most famous controversial statements about Soviet life. Did it really happen? Or are people simply used to repeating slogans behind party leaders?

Problems in the USSR
  1. Soviet goods are the best
Plombier was the most delicious, and clothes and shoes were not demolished at all. At least, that’s what fans say. And if it is difficult to argue with delicious and natural food, then foreign shoes, clothes, dishes and furniture by ordinary Soviet citizens were accurately quoted higher. Imported goods were always pursued and were ready to overpay for them many times. Those who managed to visit any little developed capitalistWe tried to save on everything, just to bring home a few things from there.

So what were the best products? Heavy and ever-chewing tape recorders? Or our cars? Or the TVs that have created a huge number of repair shops?

  2. Everyone was equal and lived comfortably.
Although the care of the workers was called the main duty of the state, it was not possible to provide "everyone according to his needs." And the standard of living of industrial workers was higher than those who worked in other fields. The level of wages was different in different regions of the country, in large and small cities. And although even the most modest salary was enough to buy food and necessary household items, but there was simply nothing more to spend on. For the sake of a car or a piece of land, you had to stand in line for years. And obtaining an apartment actually fixed the employee to the enterprise, which provided him with housing. As for savings, they simply burned during the years of perestroika. Not good enough, is it?

Is it possible to build a career? There were no career opportunities.
But the fact that an ordinary person could not build a career and break into the Soviet elite is a popular myth that is spread by the haters of the USSR. If he was not a member of the party, the road to the top was closed. And this principle has been in effect for all the years of the existence of a huge country. But it should be noted that there were enough people from simple families in the management elite. Scientists and cultural figures made their way through.

The level of education has risen. Therefore, children in comparison with their parents were engaged in more skilled work or in the social hierarchy occupied higher places. Therefore, career opportunities were available even to those who did not want to participate in political life.

Soviet medicine and education are the best in the world
During the early Soviet Union, when medical workers were trained in an accelerated mode, hygiene was promoted and vaccinations were made, successes in medicine cannot be denied. Thanks to these efforts, many diseases of that time were overcome. Child mortality has also decreased and life expectancy has increased. In 50 years in terms of the number of medical workers per capita, the USSR ranked first in the world. But it should be noted that the qualifications of these doctors were low. Equipment became obsolete, new technologies and treatments appeared not thanks to the state, but thanks to talented nuggets who tried to resist the system alone.

Low wages Doctors did not add motivation to improve their skills and deepen their knowledge. In addition, the salary did not depend on the number of patients admitted or the quality of service. It is not surprising that over time, this has only led to the growth of the popularity of alternative medicine and the emergence of diverse “healers”.

As for science, the USSR was indeed among the first in mathematics and physics. It was impossible to become a nuclear and space power otherwise. And even Western ideological rivals recognized this fact.

At the same time, many scientific discoveries were made again thanks to talented people who were completely passionate about what they loved. But administrative procrastination, resistance of party workers and national discrimination (and such was) only hindered the development of science.

Needless to say, if in the 30s, because of blindly following the authority of a couple of honored scientists, Soviet biologists were forced to reject genetics as pseudoscience, and went down the wrong path.

Yes, Soviet children knew how to write correctly, and also counted in their minds without a calculator. However, for example, they could not get acquainted with the work of talented writers and poets if their works did not correspond to the ideology of the state. In the study of history, different interpretations were not allowed, and inconvenient facts were simply silenced.

In other words, there was no alternative opinion. Soviet people were taught only the "right" things, which were served under the right sauce. Ignorance of the history of the CPSU could ruin the career of even the most promising scientist. Where is it really without such knowledge?
