The mayor and witty Ft: a funny story from English folklore





In Britain in the early nineteenth century was a very popular actor by the name of Ft. And, while on tour, he found himself in a small provincial town. There he came into the tavern and ordered supper, and when the innkeeper asked whether the actor is happy with dinner, then a Foot, being in a good mood, said:

Oh, I had supper the best in Britain!

This dispute continued long, in the end the landlord got tired and took Ft to the mayor. He heard about the cause of the dispute, said the actor in this city issued a decree according to which the mayor need to remember at every opportunity, not insulting him, but expressing his respect. If someone violates this rule, he / she faces or imprisonment, or a fine. Ft immediately threw the money on the table and shouted angrily this strange situation:

— I've never seen a bigger idiot than your innkeeper!

And added a bow to the mayor:

— Besides the mayor, of course!
