Volvo Concept Truck: a truck with a hybrid power plant

Volvo Trucks has developed the first hybrid truck for long-haul machine called the Volvo Concept Truck is designed to maximize the efficiency of transportation.

The concept Volvo Concept Truck was first introduced last year. Due to the special design achieved a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of carbon dioxide by about a third. Among the features of the truck, you can select tyres with reduced rolling resistance, improvements in aerodynamics, and the panel-plate covering the rear wheels of the tractor and all trailer wheels.

The new version of the concept is now equipped with a hybrid power plant, one of the first designed for the long haul. The developers have implemented a system of energy recovery which is activated when driving downhill more than 1% or when braking. The regenerated energy is stored in batteries of the vehicle and is used to bring it in motion on flat roads or steep ascents.

The driver assistance system, Volvo I-See was specially refined for hybrid propulsion. This complex analyzes topographical data of the route and calculates the most economic and efficient algorithm to trigger the diesel engine and electric motor, as well as the optimal moments to use the regenerated energy.

It is estimated that during each standard haul transport hybrid powerplant will allow you to travel up to 30% travel time with switched-off internal combustion engine. This will provide fuel savings of up to 5-10 %, depending on the type and spec of car, as well as the operation mode. In addition, it will also allow you to move to a distance of 10 km solely on electric.

P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
