The Tract Demerdzhi
Name Demerdzhi (krymskotat. demirci) translated from the Crimean Tatar means "blacksmith". In the Middle ages the Greeks called the mountain Funa — smoky. This name remained with the fortress at the foot of the mountain. However, in the second half of the twentieth century spread widely distorted version of "Demerdzhi". In recent years, travel guides and map publications have tended to return to correct the spelling of the name. Say how many hours there are in a day, many times changing the color of Demerdzhi. It even seems that the rainbow travels on its slopes.
Demerdzhi-Yaila is part of the Main ridge of the Crimean mountains. Located South of Dolgorukovskaya Yaila (Abadan-Yayla), near the town of Alushta. At the foot of the mountain is the village of Radiant, before 1945 called Demerdzhi. Mountain Demerdzhi (Big Alushta), altitude 1239 m is southern Demerdzhi, yet there are North Demerji (1356 m). On the slopes of southern Demerdzhi, fanciful piles of stones — the Valley of ghosts.
On the Eastern outskirts of Alushta amphitheater there is the famous Valley of ghosts and chaos on the slope of mount Demerji — a monument of nature of national importance. The mountain slopes are dotted with quaint stone figures resembling people or animals, and more often towers and columns. In the evening and night time figures are striking for their fantastic outlines.
A lot of warm feelings will cause our countrymen the trail where they filmed scenes from the film "Caucasian captive".
The total volume of block chaos exceeds 4 million cubic meters. This is the entire stone "sea". Of great scientific interest are the pebbles and boulders of local conglomerates. These are the oldest rocks whose age is determined by 800 million — 1.1 billion years. They are found only here — mysteries of geologic history and pre-history of Crimea.
On Demerdzhi there is a historical and archaeological monument — the remains of a medieval fortress Funy.
The Funa fortress located on a rocky hill at the foot of the mountain demirdzhi. The monument of archeology and architecture "Funa" is located 2 kilometers North of the village of luchistoye near the Western foot of South Demerdzhi. The greatest length of the fortress from North to South, 106 m; from West to East — 56 m. the Area of building — 0.52 hectares. the First mention of the fortress Funa refers to 1384, at this time the fortress was an Outpost of the Principality of Theodoro, was of great military importance.
